Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the FAQ section of Karl Lucas Counselling. Here, we aim to answer usual questions about my practice, modalities of therapy, and what you can expect from our sessions.

What is person-centered counselling?

Person-centered counselling is a non-directive approach to therapy that emphasizes the client's capacity for self-direction and understanding of their own development. After all, the client is the expert on themselves. It is based on Carl Rogers (1957), core conditions of empathy,  unconditional positive regard and congruence, which, when present in a safe therapeutic setting help to facilitate positive psychological change.

What can I expect during a counselling session?

During a counselling session, you can expect a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. I will listen empathetically and with unconditional positive regard, and help you to set goals and work towards discovering your full potential.

How confidential are the sessions?

All counselling sessions are strictly confidential unless an immediate risk of serious harm to yourself or others is disclosed. Your privacy and trust and wellbeing are my primary concerns.

What platforms are available for online counselling?

Online counselling is available via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Psychology Today video link or telephone, offering you convenience and confidentiality from your own space.

How can I book a session?

You can request a session by reaching out via our contact form here. I will get back to you promptly to arrange a free 15 minute phonecall which will help you to discuss your concerns, and if you choose, you can book your first appointment with me.
